BIG-Designed Inflatable Pavilion Lights Up Roskilde Festival

BIG creates "bubble-like cloud pavilion" at Roskilde Festival 2016

Described by BIG as a "bubble-like cloud pavilion", the bulbous white structure created a 120-square-metre canopy across the serving area and seating of a VIP bar for Danish brewing company Tuborg.

BIG Architects has designed an inflatable mobile pavilion to be displayed at three Danish events,

Drawing inspiration from the inflatable castles of the architects’ childhood years, SKUM is powered by two wind turbines, which keep the structure rigid and smooth. At this year’s Roskilde Festival, it served as the VIP bar area for Danish beer company Tuborg, providing a 120 square meter canopy to shield festival goers from the sun. After sunset, the structure comes to life, as color-changing LED lights illuminate the pavilion in a full palette of colors.

This sculptural pavilion is actually perfectly symmetrical. As one moves around it, it takes on different, asymmetrical viewpoints.

 bounce houses are only for kids, right? Most of the time, whether adults like it or not, that’s the truth. Once you reach a certain height and weight, the average bouncy castle of the sort seen at children’s birthday parties simply can’t accommodate you, lest you destroy the whole thing with a dramatic pop and stand aside to watch it slowly wither to a pile of plastic on the floor. But what if you could inhabit your inner child enough to go completely bonkers jumping around on a literal bounce mountain, no matter your current size?

We have teamed up with Inflate, experienced makers of successful inflatable event structures, to produce the custom-designed pavilion that fitted within the tight budget of the not-for-profit art organisation, while being versatile enough to host the wide spectrum of events envisaged by the museum, from official receptions to dance performances.
